Flotation

describes the floating of cells in the bioreactor and can occur as a consequence of aeration of a bioreactor. Cells can attach to bubbles and get carried to the top and into the foam 6. The cells do not swim freely in suspension anymore, are not provided with nutrients and die 4. Flotation is also used as separation technique to isolate cells or substances from a culture broth.
