Airlift bioreactors

are a special type of bubble column bioreactors (bubble column bioreactor with inner tube) and belong to the group of pneumatically driven bioreactors ^{5, 6}. Mass and heat transfer are provided by direct gassing with air or any other gas as the ascending air bubbles cause mixing.
